Wii Fit....is it exercise?

Until this summer I had not touched a video game since the first Nintendo Game System.

Remember the little gray box with Super Mario Brothers and The Legend of Zelda?

This was what replaced my He-Man action figures!! That was a long time ago...haha.

A few months ago, as a gift, I bought my younger brother and sister Rockband for XBox 360....and believe it or not I bought one for myself about a month ago.

(for those of you who don't know what Rockband is: it is a video game that simulates you actually playing guitar, playing drums, or singing in a rock band)

I couldn't resist.

First, I used the excuse that I was buying the Playstation 3 because it was a Blue Ray player.

Yeah right Frank....it wasn't long before I was pulling that drum kit out of the box with a huge smile on my face....

I guess the combination of the great songs in the game and that little part of me that still wants to be a Rock Star, got the better of me.

As a trainer and coach, I am supposed to be anti-video games....but I have to say, there is a time and place for everything.

Keep it in moderation and have fun!!!

How can you know who to trust?

This morning one of your fellow members came to the gym to workout and ask me about a health and wellness product he was introduced to.

I am not going to mention the product, or if it is good or bad....

In fact I'm not even sure!

I am in the health and wellness industry and feel that I have a pretty good grasp on this stuff, but I can't make heads or tails of the website. I think part of the problem is the marketing.

Now this product may be the greatest thing, but It is confusing when companies use testimonials that are canned or overexaggerated.

Take this for example:

"In the first couple of days on _____ I increased the weight I was lifting by 30% and I doubled the amount of repetitions in my workout."

So lets say this guy was bench pressing 135 lbs for 10 reps.

If we believe his testimonial, after two days on this supplement he was able to bench 175.5 lbs for 20 reps!! Come on!!

It doesn't even make sense that he doubled his repetitions...

Why would someone do that?

Why not just do the 10 reps with a 50% increase in the amount of weight..haha....

This is also a product that claims to help you sleep better, lose weight, increase endurance, stop aging, and improve well being.

What do you think of when you hear well being?

When I think of well being I think of mental health.....

How can a supplement help that?

I feel that the marketing can sometimes distort what the product actually does.

What do you think? Do you know of any examples of this?

All-Star Week and Goodbye Shea Stadium

Change your TV....Change your Life?

Now I don't watch television much anymore, so maybe I just notice things a little more than most, but CHANGE YOUR TV, CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!

Are they serious!!!

I was watching the Yankees play Boston over the weekend and this was the new marketing slogan of one of the major brand flat screen televisions.

Don't get me wrong, I am into having a nice big TV to watch High Definition movies and sports, but it won't CHANGE MY LIFE!!

Maybe not you, a proud card carrying member of All 4 Sports, but I am sure there are plenty of people out there who didn't even bat an eye when they heard that new slogan.

I googled it and there was nothing being written about it on forums or anything.

Are we that numb to this kind of thing?

Is this another example of how the majority of people live through their televisions instead of being healthy and enjoying their lives?

Maybe it is this type of thinking that has obesity rates soaring and Type II diabetes in children on the rise.

I know I am preaching to the choir on this one, but when is this type of thinking going to not be ok....
